Special Olympics Maryland Baltimore County offers year-round training and competition in 15 olympic-type sports to all persons eight years of age and older with an intellectual disability. Programs are designed to serve all ability levels, and there is no cost to participate.
No prior experience in a sport is necessary. Special Olympic athletes are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender. Events for lower level ability athletes are offered in the form of basic skills. The development of these skills is necessary prior to advancing to the next level of competition.

UNIFIED SPORTS
Unified Sports is an initiative for higher ability athletes of all ages. Combined teams provide Special Olympics athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities to train and compete together. public direct opportunities to experience first-hand the capabilities and courage of Special Olympics athletes.
Special Olympics athletes can also participate in Unified SportsĀ® competitions. Special Olympics Unified Sports is a program that combines Special Olympics athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition. Unified Sports opportunities are available for basketball, floor hockey, golf, bocce, bowling, soccer, softball and volleyball.
