Important Reminders for Athletes

1. Athletes are expected to compete in all scheduled competitions (competitions will be announced no later than April 3, 2010).

2. Athletes will be expected to identify any known schedule conflicts for competitions during the first week or two of training. Availability for competitions may affect whether an athlete is assigned to a relay team and to which team that athlete is assigned. Athletes MUST compete in a minimum of two sanctioned competitions in order to be eligible to compete at SOMD Summer Games (additional eligibility criteria may also apply).

3. Additional coaches and volunteers are needed for all sports. Please have anyone you know who is interested in coaching or volunteering contact Joyce Powell (missjmg@yahoo.com, 410.654.2477) or Mike Czarnowsky (mczarnowsky@comcast.net, 410.526.7325). All volunteers must complete a volunteer orientation/training session prior to commencing their volunteer activities.

4. Athletes who train and compete in cheerleading will once again be able to also compete in track & field at Summer Games.

5. Medical Releases/Applications
a. Every athlete training in a Special Olympics training program must have an up-to-date and accurate medical release and application for participation on file before they begin training.

b. Absolutely no exceptions may be made to this Special Olympics policy. Athletes who come to training but do not have an up-to-date medical release will not be able to participate until the properly completed and signed release is turned in.

Our First Competition of 2010 is Saturday, April 17, 2010, Early-Bird All Comers Meet at McDonogh School.
