Fall Sports Series Powerlifting Results

Saturday, October 31, 2009, the Special Olympics Maryland Baltimore County (SOMDBA) Powerlifting Team traveled to Mount St. Mary’s University to compete in the Special Olympics Maryland Fall Sports Festival.

This years powerlifting team, also known as Team Valiant Winners, was made up of four athletes. Richard Wallen, Andy Todd, Ian Wright, and Tyrone Washington. Each athlete displayed great team spirit on their way to earning eight gold medals, one silver medal, one fourth place and one fifth place finish.

One of the highlights of the competition was Andy Todd dead lifting twice his own weight and setting a new state record in his weight class. Later in the day, Andy would go on to break his own record that he set earlier in the day. Andy is also the new Athlete Congress representative for SOMDBA.

Another highlight of the day was first-year lifter Tyrone W. who also shined in the deadlift, lifting 325 pounds. Team Valiant Winners are looking for great things in the coming years from Tyrone being only a first-year lifter.

Congratulations to Coach Barb and Coach Harry and the entire Powerlifting Team for having a great season.

Team Valiant Winners would also like to share a very special thanks to Justin Sweet, the General Manager at Glory Days Grill for hosting this season’s Awards’ Dinner and Athletes’ Celebration with Family and Friends.
