Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games Opening Ceremonies

Post

The opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games took place on Friday, June 5, 2009. Athletes, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and plenty of notable guest filled the Towson Center on the campus of Towson University.

With the addition of cheerleading to the Summer Games, the Special Olympics Maryland Baltimore County delegation grew to 132 strong. The delegation made their presence known when they were recognized as the host county, yelling loudly and hammering away with their thunder sticks.

Several athletes and coaches had a moment in the spotlight during the evening. Athletics coach Alex McGee, and Baltimore County athlete Brad Ross, took part in a brief interview with WBAL-TV’s Rob Roblin, Coach Chris McGuinness recited the officials oath, and several Baltimore County cheerleaders danced along side Baltimore Ravens tackle Adam Terry as he exhibited his singing skills.

It was a fun filled night and a great way to kick off a weekend jammed packed with competition.
